Sustainability and the Sound of Music

One of my favorite movies is The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews. The song Do-Re-Mi has a verse that states ‘Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start’. That could be the approach for almost any project, including getting a CSR program started.

This week’s eSourcing Wiki article is: Implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility Part 1.

This covers the first two areas of getting started with a CSR program. The first is to take an assessment of what your organization is already doing and what would they like to do. It is important to take the time to define what you want and what is important to the organization as a whole. Once the assessment is complete, the leadership team should communicate it throughout to the rest of the associates.

Once the assessment is completed, the next step is to put a strategy together. That would include understanding the goals, discussing the direction for the next 10 years, what resources are required, and what obstacles would be encountered. Very much like any other undertaking of this magnitude.

What has your organization done to start a program on Corporate Social Responsibility? Did you take the approach suggested to get started?
