You can’t steer a parked car

You can’t steer a parked car

Disney animation movies are classic and very entertaining. They have a very long success record. The recent CARS movies have followed suit. Lighting McQueen is the main character and is certainly always moving.

I am sure you have heard the phrase “you can’t steer a parked car”. It can be used as a metaphor for almost anything. If you are doing ‘something’ that is better than nothing. Course corrections are expected but inertia is not the answer and won’t get you anywhere.

The same is true for procurement and utilizing sustainable practices. This week’s esourcing wiki article is the first 5 steps for Green Procurement. The first one is “Commit to Green Procurement”. Make it part of your corporate culture and start somewhere. Maybe it’s using copy paper that is partially recycled. Or printing on both sides of the paper instead of just one. Pick a few areas and begin there. Then you can always add and expand. The key is to start.

Are you parked or are you Lighting McQueen? Or perhaps somewhere in between? What have you learned and how far down the highway are your green procurement practices?
