All suppliers are not created equal, and if a company wants to create a sustainable supply chain it needs to maintain separate yardsticks for measuring and managing different groups of suppliers. Till the last decade managing suppliers was more or less linear: quality and timeliness were the major considerations and the only low cost suppliers were all from China.
