Technology is omnipresent in procurement today. We are obsessed with automating, digitalizing and integrating every process and task within our scope. And yet, there are surprisingly big gaps that technology does not begin to address.
Technology focuses more on either the transactional aspects of procurement (P2P) or shiny new toys (RPA/AI/Blockchain) than on providing a holistic view our activity and performance. And yet it is those activities and that performance that determine our impact and influence now and in the future.
Procurement must ensure that performance management is not lost in the noise of technology. In fact, there is no reason why procurement should not manage their activities in a way similar to how a sales organization uses customer relationship management (CRM).
Any process that is repeatable - such as building a sourcing roadmap/pipeline, monitoring sourcing execution, or measuring savings and demand - also has to be reliable. The more we can involve the business in those processes and their outcomes, the greater our impact will be.
In this AOP Live session, we will talk about:
- How procurement can engage with the business to identify opportunities, build a sourcing pipeline and establish shared targets
- The connection between ‘rituals’ that drive procurement pride and enjoyment and the team’s ability to focus and execute according to plan
- How to measure procurement’s contributions in a way that is understandable and acceptable to Finance without being a chore
- How to elevate the role of procurement by establishing credibility through methodology and technology before moving on to more strategic issues
And we want to hear from you about:
- Your current performance management challenges
- Where technology seems to advance procurement’s impact and where it does little to move the ball
- The challenges you currently face when discussing performance with finance - or the objections you find it hard to overcome
