In her article regarding the disruption of procurement, Cheryl Hayes wrote; “if all of our activity has procurement professionals solely “focused” on procuring quality goods at the lowest cost, then both the company and we are missing the “big picture” regarding our value potential.”
It is a powerful message in that with automation such as RPA and AI; procurement professionals are “freed” from the transactional tasks of the past enabling to focus on the more strategic elements of a complex global supply chain.
While measuring our ability to purchase materials at the right time, cost and best quality is still important; we must expand and extend the understanding of our contribution to include these new, strategic elements.
