Direct procurement is theoretically a part of the overall supply chain and many procurement organizations believe they "own" a very large share of the direct spend, but how much influence does the procurement organization exert on the broader supply chain? This new study by ISM and SpendMatters explores that and related questions. We find that the current state of affairs provides procurement organizations with an opportunity to take a leadership position within the broader supply chain.
