Recommended Procurement Webinars June 3-7: Embedding Social Value and the Death of RPA

AdobeStock_RIP

We’ve officially entered the summer slowdown from a webinar perspective. While this means the volume of events to choose from is down, it means that anyone hosting an event is committed to it and will hopefully put in a bit of extra effort to make the investment of time worthwhile!

If you are planning your webinar schedule beyond this week, I recommend ‘Lessons in Transformation: What Direct Procurement Teams Can Learn from Indirect Procurement’ with SIG and GEP on June 18th at 1pm ET.

BTW: If you haven’t already, sign up for our mailing list to be sure you get my weekly recommendations in your Inbox each Monday.

Practical steps to embed Social Value into your procurement strategy (Proactis)

June 6th, 5am ET (10am BST)

According to the Social Value Portal’s website, social value is “…the wider financial and non-financial impacts of programmes, organisations and interventions, including the wellbeing of individuals and communities, social capital and the environment.” Although the idea of corporate social responsibility (including ‘green procurement’ as well as supplier diversity and community impact) in procurement is not new, we haven’t done a consistent job of incorporating it across sourcing efforts. In this webinar, we’ll meet Katherine Sweet Escott, Client Account Management & Advisory at the Social Value Portal, who will share the best practices and types of impact they have seen delivered via the supply chain.

June 7th, 11am ET

Oh good… just as we were figuring out what RPA is (Robotic Process Automation), what it does (allows software ‘robots’ to carry out rules-based processes), and why procurement should care, HfS is ready to proclaim its demise. Based on the event description, the primary charge against RPA seems to be its inability to incorporate unstructured data (think social media). The alternative being proposed by HfS is “The Integrated Automation Platform” – yup, you guessed it: I.A.P. Add that to your list of ‘TLAs’.
